Alcantara/suede interiors can look, smell and feel great but if they are not correctly cleaned and maintained they can easily wear and stain. Because of the nature of the material it should not be heavily cleaned like normal upholstery as this can cause premature wear and other damage and so it it best to avoid letting an alcantara/suede interior get overly dirty. If your interior is only lightly soiled it can simply be cleaned using a damp micro fibre towel. You should first vacuum off the area to remove any loose dirt and debris, then lightly pat and wipe over the surface with the damp towel. After working the area you can lightly re vacuum it to remove any final particles and leave it with that freshly vacuumed look. If your alcantara/suede is more heavily soiled you will have to be a little more thorough. Again the area should initially be vacuumed off to remove any loose dirt, a soft bristled brush can then be used to lightly brush over the area which will help to lift the nap and allow any cleaning product to effectively penetrate and help lift out deep ingrained soiling. A damp micro fiber towel should be used in conjunction with either a diluted all purpose cleaner or a designated upholstery cleaner to then clean the area. The product should not be applied directly onto the surface but onto the damp towel instead. It should then be lightly worked over the surface patting and wiping it. You may have to repeat this process a few times in order to fully remove any ingrained dirt and stains. You can tell how effectively the area is being cleaned by checking the surface of the micro fibre towel for dirt transfer after cleaning a section. It is advisable to keep a bucket of clean, warm water to hand to rinse the micro fibre towel out before moving on to clean a new section. Once the affected area has been sufficiently cleaned it can be lightly vacuumed off to remove any excess moisture and again give it that freshly vacuumed look. Once properly cleaned, alcantara/suede should be regularly maintained to prevent any build up of dirt and contaminants from occurring. It should be thoroughly vacuumed off and brushed over with a soft bristled brush if necessary. A stiff bristled brush should never be used to do this as it could easily damage the surface and cause premature wear. |
